Sarah Johnson Obituary Death News: Former Norway Mayor, Dies in House Fire At 70

The small town of Norway is mourning the devastating loss of Sarah Johnson, 70, a former mayor and beloved community figure who died Saturday morning after a fast-moving fire engulfed her home.

The fire broke out just before 7:00 a.m. at a wood-frame residence on Harrison Avenue, prompting a large emergency response after reports indicated someone might be trapped inside.

Multiple fire departments from across Orangeburg County responded as heavy flames and thick smoke overtook the structure. Firefighters entered the burning home in an urgent search effort.

Johnson was found inside the residence and was later pronounced dead from injuries sustained in the blaze, according to Orangeburg County Coroner Sean Fogle. One firefighter was injured during the response and treated at a local hospital before being released

Johnson served as mayor of Norway from 2013 to 2019, earning a reputation as a compassionate leader who was deeply invested in the well-being of her town. Residents remember her as someone who led with humility, care, and unwavering dedication.
