It is with profound sorrow that we remember Darren McKay of Deer Lake, Newfoundland and Labrador, whose passing leaves a deep void in the hearts of all who knew him. Darren was more than a mine operator at Tacora Resources and Nuna Logistics; he was a devoted husband to Lori Ann McKay, a beloved family member, a loyal friend, and a gifted musician whose impact will be felt for years to come.

I have had the privilege of working with many people throughout my life, but the years I spent alongside Darren were some of the most challenging—and yet, because of him, also some of the most rewarding. Darren had a remarkable ability to lift the burdens of those around him. His encouragement, his laughter, and the wisdom he shared made even the hardest days manageable. He had a way of turning difficult moments into cherished memories, and his generosity of spirit left a lasting imprint on everyone he encountered.
Beyond the workplace, Darren’s influence extended into every corner of life. As a drummer and lifelong bandmate, he brought joy, rhythm, and an unmatched anointing to every performance. He was not just a drummer; he was a gifted musician who inspired others to explore their own talents. I will forever be grateful to Darren for encouraging me to play music, to sing, and to step fully into the gifts God placed within me. The countless hours we spent in ministry, from church to church, will remain etched in my heart. We laughed until we could hardly breathe, prayed together, and supported one another through life’s trials.
Darren’s kindness extended even to small, humorous moments that now bring both tears and smiles—like the unforgettable gift of a gas can for my boat, big enough to fill every vessel on the dock! It is these personal touches that reveal the depth of his generosity, his thoughtfulness, and his playful spirit.
To Lori Ann, Peter, Daniel, and Christian, please know that our prayers and hearts are with you. Darren’s work on this earth is complete, but his legacy of love, encouragement, and joy will never be forgotten. Say hello to mom in heaven for us, dear cousin, and know that until we meet again, your laughter, your wisdom, and your music will continue to inspire us every day.
Rest in peace, Darren McKay. Love you, brother.
