IRVING, Texas—One person has died, and another remains in critical condition following a suspected road rage shooting that led to a large police response and road closures in Irving on Wednesday.

The incident occurred near the intersection of Belt Line Road and Finley Road, where officers with the Irving Police Department responded to reports of a shooting. Authorities confirmed that one individual was pronounced dead at the scene, while a second victim was transported to a hospital in critical condition.
Due to the active investigation, a significant portion of the surrounding area was shut down. Police urged drivers and residents to avoid the area while detectives worked the scene.
In a statement, the Irving Police Department said:
“We are investigating a shooting incident at the intersection of Belt Line and Finley. Please avoid the area while the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to call 911 or 972-273-1010.”
While officials have not released details about what led up to the shooting, the incident is being investigated as a possible road rage confrontation. Police have not confirmed whether the victims knew each other or whether multiple weapons were involved.
A nearby resident reported hearing gunfire and said both individuals may have exchanged shots. However, police have not confirmed those details, and investigators emphasized that witness accounts are still being evaluated as part of the ongoing investigation.
No suspect information has been released, and it is unclear at this time whether anyone has been taken into custody.
Residents were reminded to remain vigilant and to allow emergency personnel to work safely. Authorities said additional information will be released once it is confirmed.
This is a developing story.
