CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. — The Charleston County community is mourning the tragic loss of Max Bowersox, 55, of Charleston County, South Carolina, who was killed in a fatal crash on Highway 23 at Ben Hatcher Road in Burke County, Georgia, early Monday morning, December 30, 2025.

According to the Burke County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a motor vehicle crash with injuries at approximately 5:20 a.m. Preliminary investigation indicates that Bowersox was driving a passenger vehicle westbound on Ben Hatcher Road when he failed to stop at a posted stop sign. His vehicle collided with the side of a southbound tractor-trailer on Highway 23.

Bowersox sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities said the crash remains under investigation by the Burke County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Division.
