Gloria Martinez Alonso Car Accident: Gloria Martinez Alonso and Infant Daughter Killed in Lexington County Head-On Crash on Christmas Eve

Gloria Martinez Alonso Car Accident – A tragic head-on collision in Lexington County, South Carolina, claimed the lives of a young mother and her infant daughter late on Christmas Eve, underscoring the deadly consequences of wrong-way driving during holiday travel.

The fatal crash occurred at approximately 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 24, 2025, in the 5200 block of Platt Springs Road (South Carolina Highway 602), near the intersection with Dari June Road. According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP), a 2016 Cadillac SUV was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes when it collided head-on with a 2010 Ford Focus.

Gloria Martinez Alonso, 24, was driving the Ford Focus at the time of the crash. She was accompanied by her 1-year-old daughter, Elisa Martinez, who was seated in the backseat. Both Gloria and Elisa sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. Their deaths have deeply affected the local community, especially given the timing of the crash on Christmas Eve.

A third occupant in the Ford Focus, identified as a front-seat passenger, survived the initial impact but suffered critical injuries. That individual was transported by emergency medical services to a nearby hospital, where they remain under medical care. Authorities have not released the person’s name or provided an update on their condition.

The driver of the Cadillac SUV was also injured in the collision and was taken to an area hospital for treatment. Officials have not disclosed the driver’s identity or the extent of their injuries, citing the ongoing investigation. As of late December 2025, no charges have been formally announced against the Cadillac driver.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is leading the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash, with assistance from the Lexington County Coroner’s Office. Investigators are working to determine why the Cadillac SUV was traveling in the wrong direction and whether factors such as impairment, fatigue, speed, or distraction played a role. Toxicology testing and a full reconstruction of the crash are expected to be part of the investigative process.

Wrong-way crashes, while relatively rare, are often among the most severe types of traffic accidents due to the high speeds and limited reaction time involved. Law enforcement officials frequently warn motorists to remain vigilant, particularly during late-night and holiday travel periods when road conditions, visibility, and driver impairment can increase risks.

Platt Springs Road was temporarily closed following the collision as investigators documented the scene and cleared debris. Traffic was rerouted for several hours before the roadway was reopened.

The deaths of Gloria Martinez Alonso and her young daughter Elisa serve as a heartbreaking reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of roadway safety. Authorities continue to urge drivers to obey traffic laws, avoid impaired driving, and immediately report suspected wrong-way drivers to emergency services. The investigation remains active, and additional details may be released as more information becomes available.
