Rye Woman Dies in Devastating I-95 Crash in Greenwich

GREENWICH, Conn. — The community is mourning the loss of Jill Newmark Haskel, 89, of Rye, who tragically passed away Monday afternoon following a three-car crash on Interstate 95 in Greenwich.

The collision occurred around 4:45 p.m. on December 22, 2025, near the Exit 3 entrance ramp from Field Point Road. Preliminary reports from the Connecticut State Police indicate that Haskel’s vehicle was involved in a collision with two other cars, resulting in serious injuries. She was transported to Greenwich Hospital, where she was pronounced deceased.

Michael Mattelson of Purdys, NY, and Anne Stark Locher of Greenwich, the drivers of the other vehicles, were uninjured. Authorities confirmed that all vehicles sustained significant damage, and the scene required a temporary closure of the highway while emergency responders assisted.

Haskel’s passing has left family, friends, and the community in deep sorrow. Her family has requested privacy as they grieve this sudden and heartbreaking loss.
