With profound sadness, the Hopi-Tewa Women’s Coalition to End Abuse (HTWCEA) mourns the loss of its Board President, Lisa Lomavaya, a founding member whose vision, compassion, and leadership helped shape the organization from its beginning in 2008. Lisa stood among a circle of determined Hopi-Tewa women who came together to create a safe, supportive voice for victims and survivors of domestic and sexual violence. From the coalition’s founding, she served faithfully on the board, dedicating her time, strength, and heart to protecting and uplifting others.

Lisa’s leadership was grounded in integrity, humility, and an unwavering commitment to her people. Her passion for advocacy and community empowerment was evident in everything she did, and her presence brought encouragement and unity to those around her. She was widely known for her warm smile, infectious laughter, and ability to inspire hope through kind words and meaningful action.
A proud member of the Spider Clan from the Village of Tewa, Lisa was a devoted mother, grandmother, and loving wife. She shared a beautiful life with her family, raising four children and welcoming one cherished grandchild. Beyond her role with HTWCEA, Lisa made a lasting impact through her work as Public Relations Officer at the Hopi Health Care Center, where she led community outreach, youth education initiatives, and employee engagement projects. She was also actively involved with the Miss Hopi Committee and numerous community efforts across Hopi and Tewa lands.
Lisa’s life was one of service, love, and purpose. She will forever be remembered as a tireless advocate, a trusted leader, and a true friend to many. We extend our deepest condolences to the Lomavaya family, her friends, colleagues, and the entire Hopi-Tewa community. Her legacy of compassion and strength will continue to guide and inspire generations to come.
