D’Andre Latrell Sowell Jr Obituary Death News: 21 Years Old D’Andre Latrell Sowell Jr Fatally Shot on Porch of Residence in southwest Birmingham

CALERA, Ala. — The Calera community is grieving the loss of D’Andre Latrell Sowell Jr., 21, who was fatally shot on the porch of a residence in southwest Birmingham on Monday night.

According to authorities, the incident occurred around 11:45 p.m. in the 3400 block of Boise Avenue. Officers from Birmingham’s West Precinct responded after ShotSpotter detected gunfire in the area. When they arrived, Sowell was found on the front porch of what appeared to be an abandoned house. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:13 a.m. Tuesday.

Officer De’Rell Freeman said further details are limited, and no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting.

Sowell’s death marks Birmingham’s 86th homicide of 2025 and is part of a broader toll of 126 homicides across Jefferson County this year. The young man’s family, friends, and neighbors are left devastated by the tragedy, mourning a life cut far too short.
