Mike Thorman Moline, IL Death, Obituary: Dedicated Skywarn Reportedly Passed Away

My heart aches with the news of the passing of Mike Thorman of Moline, Illinois. The loss of someone so genuine, generous, and deeply rooted in his community leaves a quiet emptiness that words can hardly fill. Mike was the kind of man whose presence made others feel supported, encouraged, and seen. He gave so much of himself to the people and passions he cared about, and that legacy will live on in countless lives he touched.

To so many, Mike was a steady and kindhearted friend. To families like ours, he was someone who showed up—always. He never hesitated to support my son, whether it was cheering him on in baseball or sharing in the excitement of his love for racing. Those moments of encouragement may have seemed small to Mike, but they meant the world to a young person finding confidence and joy. That is who Mike was: someone who lifted others simply by being himself.

Mike’s dedication extended far beyond family and friends. As a trained Storm Spotter with the National Weather Service and a committed Skywarn volunteer, he gave his time and skills to help protect others. That kind of service speaks volumes about his character—quietly watching out for the safety of his community, expecting nothing in return. Even in retirement, Mike continued to be someone others could rely on, a reminder that purpose does not end when a career does.

A proud graduate of Davenport West High School, Mike carried his roots with him throughout his life. Above all, he was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Julie Thorman. Their bond was a testament to love, partnership, and shared strength, and our hearts especially go out to Julie and the entire Thorman family during this incredibly difficult time.

While our hearts hurt deeply, we take comfort in believing that Mike has gone home to God, finding peace after a life well lived. He will be so dearly missed, but never forgotten. May the memories of his kindness, his laughter, and his unwavering support bring comfort in the days ahead. Sending love, prayers, and deepest condolences to all of Mike’s family and friends. Rest in peace, Mike—you made a difference, and your light will continue to shine
