The St. Edmund Preparatory High School community mourns the heartbreaking loss of Joseph “JR” Gavieres, a beloved alumnus of the Class of 2016, who passed away suddenly on December 17, 2025, at the age of 27. His untimely departure has left a profound void in the hearts of his family, friends, and all those who knew him. We join in lifting up the Gavieres family in prayer and ask that his memory be honored through the love and care he inspired in others.

Joseph was more than just a student or alumnus; he was a vibrant presence whose spirit touched everyone around him. Those who knew JR remember him for his warmth, generosity, and unwavering kindness. Whether in school, at gatherings with friends, or in moments of quiet reflection, Joseph brought a sense of joy, sincerity, and compassion to every interaction. Services to honor Joseph’s life will be held at Marine Park Funeral Home in Brooklyn, NY, on Monday, December 22nd. The wake will take place from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM, with a prayer service scheduled between 7:00 PM and 7:30 PM. In this time of mourning, may all who loved Joseph find peace in remembering his life, and may his soul rest eternally in the mercy of God.
