Forrest Champion Fort Payne, AL Death, Obituary: In Loving Memory of Forrest Champion Who Passed Away Unexpectedly

I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Forrest Champion. His loss is felt profoundly by all who had the privilege of knowing him, and his memory will forever remain in the hearts of those whose lives he touched with kindness, humor, and genuine care. Forrest was one of those rare people whose presence alone could brighten a room, whose words carried wisdom, and whose heart was always open to others.

Forrest was proudly retired and made his home in Fort Payne, Alabama, though his roots traced back to Cahokia, Illinois, where he also attended Cahokia High School. No matter where life took him, Forrest carried his warmth and authenticity with him. He had a way of making people feel comfortable, valued, and heard, whether through a heartfelt conversation or a simple shared laugh.

I will always treasure the memories of our talks and the time we spent together during breaks. Forrest had a way of giving advice that felt sincere and thoughtful, never forced, always meaningful. He shared his experiences generously, hoping others might learn or find comfort through them. Those conversations are memories I will hold close for a lifetime.

One of the moments that will always bring a smile through the tears is his playful humor. Every time I wear anything Champion, I think of Forrest—especially the way he would jokingly try to claim my Champion rain jacket, saying, “It’s mine, it has my name on it,” every single time I wore it. That lighthearted spirit was such a big part of who he was, and it’s those small, joyful moments that now mean everything.

Forrest was truly a sweet soul and one of the most caring people I have ever come across. He showed compassion without conditions and friendship without limits. His kindness left a lasting imprint, and his absence creates a space that cannot be filled.

My heart goes out to the Champion family during this incredibly difficult time. I am sending prayers, love, and strength to you today and in the days ahead. May you find comfort in knowing how deeply Forrest was loved and how many lives he touched. Rest in peace, dear friend. You will never be forgotten.
